Young Gardeners ‘Dig Deep’

The Alnwick Garden’s Young Gardeners – a group made up of young people with additional needs – partnered up with housing specialist Lovell and were given the opportunity to design and create a commercial show garden at the Edward’s Birch development in Morpeth. Designed with sustainability in mind, the garden features elements such as rainwater harvesting, wildlife-friendly ponds, and a vegetable patch, inspiring future homeowners to adopt nature-positive practices in their own spaces.

For over 15 years, the Young Gardeners programme has supported participants to build confidence, develop practical skills, and form meaningful friendships through horticulture. This exciting collaboration took their learning beyond The Garden, offering real-world experience and a chance to see their ideas come to life on a larger stage.

Projects like this are made possible through initiatives such as the Bright Garden Appeal, which helps fund programmes that empower individuals, nurture skills, and create opportunities within the community. By supporting the appeal, you are helping more young people gain confidence, grow in independence, and take their next steps towards a brighter future.
