OUR STORIES

By supporting this appeal, you will help green the spaces and the people in our community that matter most, from hospital courtyards to community programmes, ensuring more people across Northumberland and North Tyneside can experience the nurturing benefits of nature when they need it most.

WHO WE ARE

THE ALNWICK GARDEN

The Alnwick Garden is a remarkable place that transforms lives, driven by impact and is shaped by its community.

As a registered charity and one of the largest visitor attractions in the North East, we bring people, nature, and imagination together to create lasting social impact. We’re committed to using our Garden, innovation and bold curiosity to support wellbeing, learning, empowerment and access for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Nestled in the heart of Northumberland, we’re a place where people and community come first. Alongside our stunning landscapes and iconic features, The Garden is home to a wide range of community and education programmes designed to support wellbeing, build confidence, and help those people who need it the most.

From initiatives that help combat social isolation, to projects that support employability and personal development, The Alnwick Garden creates meaningful opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to connect, learn, and thrive in a welcoming and inspiring environment.

Supporting The Alnwick Garden through the Bright Garden Appeal means investing in people, place, and possibility.

WHO WE ARE

BRIGHT NORTHUMBRIA HEALTHCARE CHARITY

Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity is working to create vibrant green spaces in hospitals – vital sanctuaries designed to enhance wellbeing, reduce stress, and offer moments of calm for everyone who needs them. Funding from the appeal will help create these spaces to support:

  • Patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care on hospital wards, offering comfort, dignity, and peaceful surroundings during the most difficult moments.
  • Families and carers spending precious time with their loved ones, giving them a tranquil place to reflect, rest, and connect.
  • Clinical staff delivering holistic, person-centred care, who can use these environments as part of therapeutic practice and to support their own wellbeing.
  • Enhancing biodiversity in our outdoor spaces, providing opportunities for communities to connect with nature.
  • Create new volunteering roles ‘gardening volunteers’ to maintain the up keep of these outdoor spaces.
